Long Island Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure performed by many Long Island liposuction qualified surgeons to REFINE your figure. What liposuction is NOT is a weight loss technique used as a quick way to become thinner.

Patients do not lose a lot of weight during the procedure and not a large quantity of fat is actually removed from the body. Many people, after losing most of the weight, have areas of the body that still contain fat and, using liposuction, the surgeon can trim these trouble spots to conform to the slim shape of the rest of the body.

Surgeons commonly use liposuction to target fat in the hips, buttocks, thighs, arms, chin and neck, love handles and stomach and many other specific areas. Typically these areas of fat remain even if the person has done vigorous exercise and the surgeon will use liposuction to provide the final touches to the weight loss. During the procedure Long Island liposuction surgeons use equipment that lets them change the contour of the body by removing fat from these specific areas.

Fat is literally vacuumed out of the problem areas with a suction device by the surgeon. Liposuction is usually used on women patients but, more and more, men are using the procedure to reduce breast size. Not everyone gets the same benefit from the procedure, according to several Long Island liposuction surgeons, with people that have specific fat areas and elastic, firm skin getting the most out of it.

This is because the skin needs to contract around the newly reduced area and conform to the new contours to really look good. Skin is less elastic on older patients, so this may mean that they are not good candidates for liposuction.

As far as recover goes, it depends on the size of the area that was treated, but, in general, patients are usually back to their routine within a week or two. It usually takes 2 or 3 months to completely recover from all the effects of having the surgery. During the first few weeks of recovery, a compression garment is often worn.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposculpture Surgery

The newest liposuction variant is a procedure called Ultrasound-assisted Liposculpture, often referred to by its abbreviation "UAL". The metal probe used in UAL procedures has the ability to produce high frequency, ultrasonic sounds. The fat cells next to the sound emitting UAL probe are actually liquified and then removed by suction.

UAL probes do not produce nearly as much bleeding or tissue damage, so the surgeon can actually remove much more fat during the procedure. There is also less bruising than with traditional liposuction. Another advantage of UAL is a smoother surface and less contour irregularity than in traditional liposuction.

The sound emitting UAL probe cannot be used on all areas of the body and you should check with your surgeon to find if it can be used in your procedure. Do not be surprised if UAL treatments cost significantly more than traditional liposuction, since the equipment is quite expensive. Early UAL machines of the first two generations have been linked to cases of skin damage caused by overly powerful sound waves, but third and later generations do not have this problem.

When you have found the Long Island liposuction surgeon you want to use for the procedure, you may find that they recommend using a combination of techniques to achieve the desired result.
